New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer | July 1, 2011

This New Moon in protective Cancer is a very powerful Solar Eclipse. Instead of planting seeds of security in our gardens of desire, we are challenged to break up the old soil of expectations about what will make us safe and happy. Cancer wants closeness and continuity but eclipses break patterns, especially when forming stressful 90-degree squares with volatile Uranus. Yet while Uranus sparks surprises, constraining Saturn and transformational Pluto also form tense aspects to the New Moon. Pressure is building that can affect major institutions, individuals and the environment and is best met with innovation, passion and commitment. Being a well-prepared and patient agent of change will radically improve lives while desperately holding onto the past can be futile and frustrating.

Mercury in Leo
Friday, July 1, 10:38 pm PDT, Saturday, July 2, 1:38 am EDT

The communication planet is enriched with greater creativity and boldness now. Self-expression grows more dramatic, sometimes to effectively make a valid point or grandstand with immature insecurity. The potential for original thought grows when we take our ideas seriously, but take ourselves lightly. This way the focus is on the expressive and entertaining sides of Leo, rather than on the need to inflate our egos.

Venus in Cancer
Sunday, July 3, 9:17 pm PDT, Monday, July 4, 12:17 am EDT

Love’s leading planet grows tender and self-protective in cuddly Cancer. The urge to return to familiar sources of comfort is an understandable reaction to outside pressure and internal insecurities. However, during the next nine days, Venus will follow the Sun’s rocky road of tense connections with Uranus, Pluto and Saturn to shake up relationships and self-worth. Finances could prove tricky, requiring innovation and flexibility since standing still or retreating might be even more costly.

Jupiter trine Pluto
Thursday, July 7

This favorable alignment of expansive Jupiter in Taurus and potent Pluto in Capricorn is the first in a series that will return on October 28 this year and March 12 next year. The steady optimism of the former and ruthless efficiency of the latter have the power to apply resources in more effective ways. This can save failing enterprises and careers or launch ambitious new professional plans. Philosophical pragmatism is another potential benefit of this alignment, although reductionist thinking can measure everything in material terms, eliminating faith and imagination from our calculations. Grounding future plans in a more realistic foundation is fine if inspiration isn’t lost along the way.

Uranus Retrograde
Saturday, July 9
Revolution begins within when this radical planet turns retrograde. Freedom is not something that’s measured by what others allow us to do but comes from the liberty that we give ourselves. Uranus’ 5-month reversal could delay some external breakthroughs, but helps us recognize resistance so that we can free ourselves from self-imposed limitations.

Full Moon in Capricorn
Thursday, July 14, 11:40 pm PDT, Friday, July 15, 2:40 am EDT

The Full Moon in determined Capricorn opposes the Sun in sensitive Cancer, raising issues of whether to toughen up to deal with the outer world or seek cover in warm and fuzzy places. But as with all oppositions, there is truth on both sides of the equation. Rather than choosing to ignore inner needs or running away from challenges because they’re too difficult, this lunation reminds us that we have a full spectrum of responses available and can learn to flow from fierce to fluffy as we choose.

Sun in Leo
Friday, July 22, 9:12 pm PDT, Saturday, July 23, 12:12 am EDT

The Sun’s entry into its home sign marks mid-summer in the Northern Hemisphere, reflecting the heat of this fixed fire sign. Leo is strong-willed and creative, encouraging us to be proud, expressive and generous. Self-confidence allows the heart to open with warmth and love that energizes and entertains people. But when egos are weak, we can be little tyrants, acting like insecure children insensitive to the needs of others. This transit, though, is a reminder to take risks and explore our potential for greatness while remaining humble enough to show respect and respond to others.

Venus in Leo
Thursday, July 28, 7:59 am PDT, 10:59 pm EDT

Amorous Venus needs a spotlight in theatrical Leo. Off-handed approval is not enough to ensure that we feel loved when we need to be adored. Relationships are likely to become more dramatic as if romance requires emotional extremes to be meaningful now. Keeping a sense of humor will help avoid the highs and lows of selfish behavior that can undermine a partnership. Self-aggrandizement and vanity are turn-offs while opening our hearts invites romance.

Mercury in Virgo
Thursday, July 28, 10:59 am PDT, 1:59 pm EDT

Brainy Mercury’s entry into its earthy home sign sharpens minds with practical perspectives and analytical skills. However, this transit doesn’t last very long as Mercury is turning retrograde on August 2. It will back into Leo on August 8 before returning to Virgo on September 8. A great asset of this intellectually astute transit is its capacity to break down complex issues into easily manageable pieces.

We may feel a sense of loss or disorientation with this Solar Eclipse, but it is time to burn some bridges with the past. However, we don’t need to erase all memories of what has come before. This New Moon is a clear signal that bold methods and beliefs are more likely to sustain personal growth and collective survival than returning to outmoded ideas.
Have a great month!

DAYKEEPER’S ENERGY UPDATE WEEK OF APRIL 20-26, 2011 | GLIMMERS OF CLARITY

Moon enters Capricorn, sign of the ultimate Achiever, on Friday to usher in a powerhouse weekend. Mercury stations direct on Saturday. After a relaxed Sunday morning, we’re ready to accomplish great things and to start seeing glimmers of clarity on the vast changes we’ve been making over the course of last months. Finally!

3/19/2011 – Full Moon will be biggest in 20 years

It’s a day of the miraculous, even if we don’t yet understand how events will evolve in our favor. At 11:10 am, the Moon opposes the Sun to bring the Full Moon illumination at 28°48′ Virgo/Pisces. This takes us back to the Lunar Eclipse of December 21 to pick up threads that are still unwoven into the tapestry of our lives. We are looking deep, gaining perspective, and drawing conclusions that will lead to life-changing decisions in the next few days to weeks. This process is enhanced as we are relatively free from attachment now. The Full Moon opens the door to a contemplative process fostered by the Moon’s void period, augmenting the hush before the orchestra of spring begins to play when the Sun enters Aries tomorrow. When the Moon goes into Libra at 1:03 pm, it opposes Uranus to awaken us to the overtones of deeper purpose in our life.

2/25/2011 – Power-hungry Pluto moves center stage this week, pushing aside the recent Neptunian haze to douse you with a more forceful, determined energy!

Pluto’s powerful activities will begin February 25, when Jupiter forms a square between the two planets. Once this happens, you’ll discover you have all the tools you need to create your own momentum and luck. If you’re normally a shy or quiet person, you’ll suddenly find your voice — along with just the right amount of courage. And if you tend to be more aggressive, just make sure you don’t cross any lines! Tempting though it may be to thumb your nose at authority or step on a couple toes to get your way, doing so won’t help in the long run. Keep your cool, take a few deep breaths and maybe even step out for a brisk walk to release some of that energy.

Further tempering some of that aggression, Mercury and the Sun will also meet up with Pluto on February 25 and 26, respectively. Mercury with Pluto will dig deep to ferret out secrets and leave you pondering some intense ideas. Meanwhile, the pairing of the Sun and Pluto will tell you more about the recent past — you’ve finally conquered some sort of difficulty that’s been plaguing you — than it will about the future. Pay attention to lessons that can be learned from these issues to ensure you don’t have to tackle the same problems twice.

As the month comes to an end, you’ll feel as though you can take on the world … and there’s no time like the present to see how much you can accomplish!

12/10/2010 – Mercury goes Retrograde

On December 10, mischievous Mercury makes yet another semi-annual retrograde journey, and just in time to potentially add a little extra stress to your holidays; But have no fear! The key word here is “potentially.” As with any astrological event, the final result rests in your hands. There are plenty of tricks and tips that will help Mercury’s backwards motion work in your favor. Plus, Mercury will add a pleasant little boost to its activities on the 10th by moving into a positive aspect with romantic Venus.

The key to dealing with Mercury is understanding that the messenger planet is something of a prankster, it is in no way malicious. Mercury likes to keep you on your toes, reminding you that even the best-laid plans can go awry. However, it’s by learning to deal with these little setbacks that we become more successful at tackling some of life’s bigger problems.

In this particular case, Mercury will travel through Capricorn, which means it will carry a more practical message: Keep an eye on your spending! This is a wise — if not enthusiastically embraced — reminder around the holidays. Still, take a little extra time to go over your budget in detail and try not to overspend. In fact, given the tendencies of retrograde Mercury, it would be smart to set a bit of extra money set aside if possible, just in case.

In general, if it seems like little things are somewhat problematic — electronics are on the fritz, communications keep going afoul or delays seem interminable — remember to take a step back, breathe deeply and let your mind wander. These things are bound to happen from time to time. Instead of allowing stress to build up, use the time to rejuvenate yourself with a bit of quiet meditation or introspection.

And don’t forget, the 10th will also see some extra romance once Mercury and Venus take a turn around the dance floor in Scorpio. This combination of communication (Mercury), romance (Venus) and sexy seduction (Scorpio) is sure to help turn up the heat on these cold winter nights!

A bit of introspection can work wonders to help pull you out of a rut or keep your mind clear during more trying times. But how well do you really know yourself? Are you prepared to fully use your strengths (and even your weaknesses) to your favor? The alignment of the planets at the time of your birth plays a critical role in your personal development.

12/5/2010 – New Moon in Sagittarius, Mars in Capricorn

On December 5, as the new Moon rises in Sagittarius — the Archer — it’s time to take aim at your most ambitious goals and fire! A direct hit is finally within your reach.

And that’s just the beginning. Later that very night, retrograde Uranus will finally go direct again, while on the 7th, fiery Mars will move into calculating Capricorn. These three events acting on top of each other are a trifecta of opportunity. You’ll feel the benefit of their activities so much more when you take the initiative into your own hands.

A new Moon is always a good opportunity to start something new, and with optimistic, adventurous Sagittarius in your corner, it’s time to shed any doubts or questions slowing you down. There’s no time like the present to see how much you can accomplish.

Uranus is the ruler of out-of-the-box thinking. You’ve probably had some plans and ideas brewing in the background for the last couple months as Uranus took a backwards stroll in Pisces. Now, as the planet moves forward again, it urges you to do the same. It’s time to stop meditating about your ideas and turn them into reality!

To help seal the deal, Mars, the planet of action, will immerse itself (and you!) in get-the-job-done-right Capricorn. Mars would encourage you to leap before you look, but Capricorn is the sign of practicality. When combined, the two work together to help you move toward your target in a forceful, yet prudent manner. You’ll be more likely to achieve your goals if you’re realistic about what you can accomplish.

So what does all of this mean? Well, obviously, it’s time to take action! Whether you go for something big, like a career change, or just decide it’s time to clear the clutter from your space so you can think more clearly, you couldn’t ask for a better time to get the job done.

Just remember that if you make your move on these three particular days, it’s not just your goals you can reach — it could be your dreams!

Astrology.com: Full Moon in Taurus posting November, 2010 – You are the Master of Your Soul

On November 21 at 17:27 UT (9:27 AM PST — 12:27 PM EST), we have a potent Full Moon in Taurus. The Moon is at its best placement and is said to be ‘exalted’ in this practical and grounding sign, and the emotional and sensitive aspects of the Moon gains stability.

Full Moons always come fourteen days after the New Moon, completing the cycle of fruition. This is a time for reflection to see what we have accomplished in the last two weeks. Full Moons are also considered auspicious times to move forward with new goals and sometimes a totally new perspective. However, since the Sun and the Moon are on opposite sides of the zodiac, the forces of the universe are opposing each other — setting up the scene for internal conflicts and see-saw of direction.

Last month with the Moon in Scorpio, the energy of the cosmos was on determination and change. With the Full Moon in the sign of the bull — a sign of both stubbornness as well as enduring strength — the battle with the inner self is going to be between the heart and the practical mind.

The heart wants to follow its innermost yearnings, its passion, while the practical Taurus energy wants you to be sensible and make sound decisions, and do what is workable out in the real world. It may not be easy but where there’s a will there’s a way. This is also the time to discard old baggage. Analyze yourself and dispose of feelings and emotions that have long outlived their purpose.

The two positive forces of Venus and Jupiter who both turned direct earlier in the week also hold major roles in this cosmic drama. During the Venus retrograde period in Scorpio, many relationships may have felt the sting of the Scorpion, but with Venus in its own sign of relationships — Libra — calmness, gentleness, caring and nurturing will all return to relationships. Venus has returned to her role of goddess of love, beauty and affluence. Who knows, this may be the magical time for some to meet their soul mates!

The Sun then moves into Sagittarius, ruler of Jupiter, on November 22 heralding in a time of opportunity and adventure. Awaken your life and inject more hope and excitement into it. A lively mind in a healthy body is Sagittarius’ ideal. More @ http://astrology.com

New Moon in Scorpio

Friday, November 5, 9:52 pm PDT, Saturday, November 6, 12:52 am EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The New Moon in Scorpio is a time to begin digging deep within ourselves and our relationships to eliminate attitudes and individuals which hold us back and to connect with our deepest desires. Pushing past the boundaries of propriety allows access to the sub-basement of the psyche where we discover what we want most. However, passions ignited by this lunation may burn slowly until romantic Venus turns direct on November 18. There may also be surprises that shake partnerships, provoke sudden financial changes and awaken urges to alter daily routines as electric Uranus forms a stressful 135-degree sesquisquare with the New Moon.

Neptune Direct
Saturday, November 6
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The forward shift of Neptune is a time to turn dreams into reality. This can be a gradual process in which inspirational ideas start to take a more significant role in our lives. The expression of spiritual values and practices also becomes more overt as our highest values and aspirations are exposed to the world. Neptune’s change of direction opens hearts to compassion and minds to richer creative potential.

Venus in Libra
Sunday, November 7, 7:06 pm PST, 10:06 pm EST
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The love planet backs into her airy home sign for a brief encore visit. This is ideal for smoothing out bumps in relationships to restore peace and harmony with a newfound sense of fair play and willingness to compromise. There is, though, a risk of painting imperfect alliances in pink clouds of hope that may not reflect reality. Envisioning best case scenarios presents a desirable target but requires partners who see the same picture and can rise to the occasion to make it real.

Mercury in Sagittarius
Monday, November 8, 3:43 pm PST, 6:43 pm EST
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Mouthy Mercury can be quite blunt in outspoken Sagittarius. Opinions tend to override facts which gives life to dry ideas but tends to promote partisanship and careless thinking. Attention to details may flag as minds seeking absolute truths can’t be bothered with petty contradictions. Selling big concepts is more comfortable than discussing fine points as conversations are more about telling everyone what we believe than listening to what others have to say.

Jupiter Direct
Thursday, November 18
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Optimism returns with expansive Jupiter’s shift into forward gear. We don’t need to keep looking to the past to figure out what went wrong when a brighter future lies ahead. Big plans that were put on hold, especially those related to education or travel, are almost ready to be put into action. Although it’s tempting to follow inspiration wherever it leads, the bigger the goal the more important it is to know the steps needed to reach it.

Venus Direct
Thursday, November 18
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
It’s a doubly joyous day with both of astrology’s traditional benefics Jupiter and Venus turning direct. The love planet’s forward shift finally releases us from some of the limits of old relationships, allowing for fresh moves toward pleasure and partnership. Treating ourselves to life’s sweet delights is not a flight from responsibility but a necessary part of self care. Plans to improve personal appearance, initiate artistic projects and host social events are healthy ways to express this change.

Full Moon in Taurus
Sunday, November 21, 9:27 am PST, 12:27 pm EST
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The opposition of the Sun and Moon in the fixed signs of Scorpio and Taurus is often a showdown over values. Resistance to change is a common response to a crisis over money or personal desires. However, the conflict between self-indulgent Taurus and transformational Scorpio is reduced by 90-degree squares to both from imaginative Neptune. Instead of struggling over limited resources and contrasting needs this dissolving planet reveals enough common interest for comfort and hunger to work as allies in pursuit of emotional and material fulfillment.

Sun in Sagittarius
Monday, November 22, 2:15 am PST, 5:15 am EST
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The expressive Sun’s entry into the adventurous fire sign Sagittarius lifts heads up and turns eyes toward the sky. We can see beyond the limits of the moment to view broader horizons where there is room for our highest aspirations. Hope increases and positive thinking fuels an energetic 30-days in which a great deal can be promised. There is a risk, though, that expectations may exceed reason, which can lead to major disappointments. Stretching boundaries is appropriate as long as they don’t expand so far that they are beyond reach.

Venus in Scorpio
Monday, November 29, 4:34 pm PST, 7:34 pm EST
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Venus returns to this deep diving sign to review and revise relationships. The recent six-week Venus retrograde cycle turned over all the rocks of old alliances, making it clear where the problems lie and what needs are essential. This transit is excellent for cutting through the noise of niceness and distractions of diplomacy to put honest desires for love, money and approval on the table where they can be addressed directly. A key to making this energy work is knowing what we’re willing to give for what we want to get.

Mercury in Capricorn
Tuesday, November 30, 4:11 pm PST, 7:11 pm EST
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Cerebral Mercury’s presence in administrative Capricorn organizes thinking and formalizes conversations. Words aren’t wasted on trivialities when there are problems to solve and worlds to be conquered. Patience and planning are gifts of this transit that become available with a bit of mental discipline. Curbing wandering thoughts and rambling conversations puts us on track to order and achievement.

The New Moon in Scorpio is a bit of a paradox because Sun-Moon conjunctions represent the beginnings of monthly lunar cycles while Scorpio is a sign that descends into the shadows of the past. This insightful lunation is a transition, a bridge between old wounds and fresh possibilities. Healing the former by letting go of shame and blame and altering habits makes way for the latter and their promise of greater satisfaction.

Have a great month!

September 2010 Mercury and Pluto Direct, all Equinox & more via Astrology.com

Jupiter moves back into Pisces on September 9, and stays there until almost the end of January 2011. This should bring a spiritual note into our lives, since this transit has a charitable heart, deep compassion and a sense of the importance of inner peace.

Mercury turns direct on September 12, and it is time to pick up our forward movements. On the same day a super-persuasive Venus sextile Pluto will bring warmth to encounters and a touch of passion, though be aware of a few hidden agendas. Venus-Pluto does have a manipulative side which needs to be handled with care.

Mars stands stalwart for better co-operation in close relationships to Libra until September 14, generally with positive results. It then moves into Scorpio to stay there until October 27, which will bring with it a mood of formidable determination and as well as a little vengefulness. Mars in Scorpio can never find it in its heart to forgive, forget and move on. It wrestles in a rather anguished way with hurts, slights and double dealings. Not that it is entirely straightforward all the time either, since it carries all of Scorpio’s need for secrecy to extreme lengths. It does however, have its purpose, in standing rock steady in crisis, being courageous and resourceful, and provides a backbone for any difficulties ahead.

Pluto going direct in Capricorn on September 14 will provide assistance in solving practical and financial problems. A period of good luck, full of adventurous spirit, with a break from tension and stress is promised as Jupiter conjuncts Uranus on September 19. Both Jupiter and Uranus oppose the Sun on September 21, and there might be an unexpected turns of events, which may prove to be just what we all needed. It will be impulsive, and a time when new opportunities should be grasped instantly, without pausing to take time for caution.

We usher in the Fall Equinox on September 22, as the Sun moves into well-balanced Libra, and promptly forms a square to Pluto on September 26, which will require perseverance and some strings to get pulled, in order to get around problems. Even on the final day of this month, there will be no let up from the cosmos pressure as the Sun is poised to align with Saturn on October 1. Stand firm! The going might get difficult — but persistence will pay off. Stand firm.

August 2010: New Moon, Mercury Retrograde & more via StarIQ.com

New Moon in Leo
Monday, August 9, 8:09 pm PDT, 11:09 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The New Moon in the Sun’s warm-hearted home sign Leo inspires romance, creativity and playfulness. It is a time to let our inner child express itself with joyful enthusiasm. However, hard aspects from this lunation to the Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto T-square could provoke explosive reactions if innocence is tainted with arrogance. One person’s pleasure can be annoying to others, reminding us to balance the desire for self-expression with respect for other people’s limits.

Uranus in Pisces
Friday, August 13, 8:37 pm PDT, 11:37 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Revolutionary Uranus backs into supersensitive Pisces, sending out ripples of electricity to awaken the unconscious parts of ourselves. We become aware of the secrets hidden in fantasies and dreams or obscured with denial and delusion. Imagination grows more fertile, sprouting seeds of inspiration that can be transformed into action when Uranus returns to initiating Aries on March 11, 2011.

Jupiter opposite Saturn
Monday, August 16
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Expansive Jupiter’s second of three oppositions to restrictive Saturn (the first was on May 23 and the third will be on March 28, 2011) is an excellent time to take stock of professional plans and other long-term goals. Attempts to go it alone with optimistic Jupiter in independent Aries may flounder without the support and approval of others with realistic Saturn in the partnership sign Libra. If frustration is building because a project cannot seem to get off the ground, forging ahead might rock the boat but may be the only way to overcome inertia.

Mercury Retrograde
Friday, August 20, 12:53 pm PDT, 3:53 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Talkative Mercury’s backward turn tends to complicate conversations, muddle details, mess with machinery and make travel more difficult until it goes forward again on September 12. The messenger planet’s turnabout in analytical Virgo offers a second chance to tighten up systems and perfect techniques, return to a healthy routine of diet and exercise and reconnect with people from the past. Paying extra attention to data and how words are used will go a long way toward avoiding problems.

Saturn square Pluto
Saturday, August 21
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The third and final stressful square between astrology’s two heaviest planets completes a transformative process that began on November 15, 2009, returned on January 31, 2010 and is now coming to its end. Serious Saturn in accommodating Libra recognizes the necessity of compromise but potent Pluto in dominating Capricorn is reluctant to share control. Individuals may struggle to rebuild broken lives or reinforce a foundation to support their current status. Large institutions may be so riddled with corruption that heads of corporations and governments may roll. The bottom line is that we’re all due for some changes and the most desirable ones are those that we choose ourselves.

Sun in Virgo
Sunday, August 22, 10:27 pm PDT, Monday, August 23, 1:27 am EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The Sun in season-ending Virgo is a time of adjustments at home and work. Refining skills and developing talents to turn creative interests into practical use may require specialized training. Virgo’s keen eye often focuses on minor flaws, which is helpful if they merit attention and can be remedied. But over-analysis of personal imperfections can prove to be more critical than constructive. Solving problems is the strength of this efficient earth sign while limiting oneself with negative labels is its weakness.

Full Moon in Pisces
Tuesday, August 24, 10:05 am PDT, 1:05 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The opposition of the pragmatic Virgo Sun and imaginative Pisces Moon is a contrast between the real and ideal. Logical Virgo seeks to master the materials at hand while spiritual Pisces is oriented toward the divine. The gap between them is narrowed now because of intense Pluto’s harmonious aspects (60 and 120-degree angles) to both lights. Even though the Pisces Moon’s penchant for escapism is amplified by its conjunction with drifty Neptune, Pluto penetrates these differences to bring fantasies down to earth and to elevate mundane tasks with a richer sense of meaning.

Mercury conjunct Sun
Friday, September 3
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Retrograde Mercury’s conjunction to the Sun is an excellent opportunity to take a good look at ourselves. The ego can be seen in a new light to help us recognize where we are stuck in repetitive habits. Self-absorption, though, is a possible downside when we lose objectivity by over-identifying with our ideas.

The New Moon in Leo is a time to roar. It’s a rebirth of youthful enthusiasm and mature artistry. Acts of creation empower us with hope and generosity of spirit produces a group of loving and generous leaders. Pursuing pleasure is appropriate as long as it comes from giving and doing instead of becoming passive consumers. We grow stronger when we act as if we are the captains of our ships, even when sailing through unfamiliar waters.

Have a great month!

http://www.stariq.com/NewMoonReport.htm

On July 11-12 2010, the New Moon in Cancer is also a powerful total Solar Eclipse and it will make for at time of heightened awareness for all of us.

Although, this eclipse is total, it will not be seen by many people since its pathway lies over the South Pacific Ocean and will be visible only in places like Cook Islands, Easter Island and several isolated atolls. However, it is predicted to have very intense, interesting as well as profound energies that will impact all of us!

During a solar eclipse, the Moon is positioned in between the Sun and Earth, cutting off the light of the Sun. A solar eclipse always occurs during a New Moon and is considered to denote the start or beginning of something new in our lives. Eclipses challenge us to develop our lives in some way. We can turn our backs on the hints from the universe, but that usually means in a few day’s or week’s time we may end up having to make changes which are forced on us.

This solar eclipse New Moon in Cancer makes aspects to Neptune and to Mars, just as Mars begins to close in on Saturn in the last decant of Virgo. Saturn itself is less than a degree away from its entrance into Libra, where it will form an almost perfect square with Pluto, and where we will experience the most potent expression yet of its ongoing opposition to Uranus.

This particular eclipse is in a series that we have experienced before in 1991-1992, so if we look back to those years, we may get a hint of what needs to be given a shakeup in our lives. It may bring to a successful conclusion a situation which has been bothering some of us for a while. Don’t worry if initially things seem worse, since you’ll then turn a corner into better times ahead.

What is vital is that we get our heads and our hearts together and really focus. A solar eclipse occurs when the Sun and the Moon are together as seen from Earth in an especially sensitive zone. So we need to have our yin and yang in balance. What we want needs to be in alliance with what we should be doing. If we can focus, and act from our core center using all our energies, then the results will follow.

As a general rule, we feel the impact of eclipses in the areas that are governed by the sign or sector of the zodiac that the eclipse occurs in. This solar eclipse is in Cancer so all things Cancerian will be in focus. On a personal level, solar eclipses can have a major impact, if it occurs in conjunction with one of our natal planets. So be especially careful if your Sun sign, Moon sign or Ascendant is in Cancer. Where the eclipse falls in the chart is significant, as the energies expressed by its house placement will show the areas of life that are affected by the new beginning that is implied.

JULY STAR IQ ASTROLOGY:

Chiron in Aquarius
Tuesday, July 20, 2:27 am PDT, 5:27 am EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The wounded healer’s return to intellectual Aquarius reminds us of the inadequacies of ideas that flow through the head without connecting to the heart. Recognizing where ideals are not matched with action or tempered with compassion may cause us to rethink fundamental notions about what’s best for society.

Saturn in Libra
Wednesday, July 21, 8:10 am PDT, 11:10 am EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Serious Saturn returns to sociable Libra after its encore visit to Virgo on April 7. For the next two years the planet of hard, cold reality will be reshaping relationships, altering alliances and seeking new forms of peace and justice. Saturn’s exaltation in Libra reflects how well this seemingly odd couple works together. Both planet and sign bring objectivity into the foreground, reorienting how we interact with others and find balance within ourselves.

Sun in Leo
Thursday, July 22, 3:22 pm PDT, 6:22 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The heat is on in the northern hemisphere with the Sun entering the mid-summer sign of Leo. Individual expression and creativity are fueled by the growing fires of unfettered personalities. Egos may inflate with excessive self-importance amd arrogrance is in the air. Still, when hearts are open generosity and playfulness flow freely. It is childlike innocence that unburdens us from the need to appear more important than others and invites joyous sharing among loving people.

Jupiter Retrograde

Wisdom comes from within as the guru planet shifts into reverse gear. The best teachers are inside each individual, reminding us to trust intuition more than so-called experts. Big dreams may be delayed during a four-month period of reevaluation when major plans may require a second look. Others may not understand our aspirations but the point is not to convince them but to keep inspiring ourselves.

Jupiter square Pluto
Saturday, July 24
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Enthusiastic Jupiter in Aries is fired up about the future while pennypinching Pluto in Capricorn is counting the cost of the next great adventure. Negatively, doubt or fear will stifle action or extremist beliefs will explode in prejudicial ignorance. Positively, high hopes are enriched by pragmatic perspectives and philosophical transformations that will open minds. This aspect will repeat August 3 and February 25, 2011, giving us more chances to address these issues.

Full Moon in Aquarius
Sunday, July 25, 6:38 pm PDT, 9:38 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The Moon in cool collective Aquarius opposes the Sun in hot individualistic Leo provoking questions about sharing and cooperation. What’s the appropriate balance between what’s good for the individual and what’s good for society? How does the expression of one person work within the context of a group? The divide between private interests and public concerns represented by this lunation is bridged by a trine to the Moon from Saturn in Libra, providing a sense of fair play and flexibility to gracefully move from one side to the other.

Saturn opposite Uranus
Monday, July 26
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The fifth and final face-off between conservative Saturn and radical Uranus forces issues of authority and order versus innovation and revolution back into focus. Almost two years have passed since their first alignment in November 2008, allowing us the time to find a workable stance between playing it safe and making changes. Ideally, enough self-respect, purpose and discipline has been established, creating a strong foundation to support our most liberating and original aspirations.

Mercury in Virgo
Tuesday, July 27, 2:43 pm PDT, 5:43 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
This cerebral planet’s stay in its earthy home sign will be extended by its retrograde period in Virgo from August 20 until September 12. Sharp analytical thinking can help unravel the most complicated puzzles. However, excessive attention to detail, especially during the retrograde cycle, can make it easy to lose sight of the forest while examining the details on every tree. The potential of increased intellectual acuity is a gift as long we don’t get stuck in the corridors of narrow thinking.

Mars in Libra
Thursday, July 29, 4:47 pm PDT, 7:47 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
Aggressive Mars isn’t comfortable in diplomatic Libra where concerns about others inhibit initiative and spontaneity. Indecisiveness can leave some in a state of suspended animation, however, greater awareness of the impact of our actions should increase cooperation and make for more peaceful working conditions. If struck with paralysis by analysis (with the help of Mercury in Virgo), beginning to move in any direction will put wind in our sails and course corrections can be made, if needed. Note that Mars’ opposition to Uranus and conjunction to Saturn on July 30-31 ratchets up pressure that even accommodating Libra might not be able to relieve.

Venus in Libra
Friday, August 6, 8:48 pm PDT, 11:48 pm EDT
http://www.stariq.com/Images/GoldBar.gif
The love planet’s annual visit to her socially skillful and aesthetically graced home sign smooths the way to more harmonious relationships. An honest appreciation for others’ values and a willingness to make compromises may heal wounds of misunderstanding. Still, Venus’ opposition to Uranus on August 7 and conjunction to Saturn the following day temporarily raises the likelihood for feelings of alienation. Short-term breakdowns in compatibility, however, do not have to undermine the long-term prospects of a worthwhile partnership.

The New Moon in Cancer symbolizes a return to our roots. It’s a reconnection with family, memories and familiar places that nourishes us with a sense of belonging or smothers with a lack of originality and options. Yet this lunation is a Solar Eclipse that’s more about burning off outmoded aspects of the past than going back to live in it. Toss, cry or laugh away what’s been outgrown to seed a new garden of comfort and security.

New Moon in Taurus
Thursday, May 13, 6:04 pm PDT, 9:04 pm EDT

The New Moon in Taurus is usually a time to lay down solid plans, a pattern that is supported by stabilizing Saturn’s harmonious trine to this Sun-Moon conjunction. However, tense squares to the lunation from Mars and Neptune spur fantasies and risk taking uncharacteristic of earthy Taurus. While we may engage in frustrating combat or get lost in clouds of illusion, imagination can lift us above the limits of current realities and instigate creative activities that expand our horizons.

Venus in Cancer
Wednesday, May 19, 6:05 pm PDT, 9:05 pm EDT

The love planet’s shift into self-protective Cancer puts an emphasis on safety and comfort in relationships. Heightened sensitivity can magnify the power of love and also dramatize insecurities. Drawing closer with those we already know may be easier than making new connections. A desire to revisit familiar places and return to cozy old habits, though, is only helpful if we bring a fresh perspective that connects the past with the future.

Sun in Gemini
Thursday, May 20, 8:34 pm PDT, 11:34 pm EDT

The Sun in Gemini fills us with curiosity that allows minds to wander into new and strange places. This is a chance to let go and lighten up by recognizing that there are many ways to deal with life. Collecting data and exploring ideas with wide-ranging conversations can stimulate thinking yet may also distract us from meeting our obligations. Still, it is beneficial to be adaptable enough that we’re able to work around obstacles instead of hunkering down in power struggles.

Jupiter opposite Saturn
Saturday, May 22, 10:38 pm PDT, Sunday, May 23, 1:38 am EDT

The first of three oppositions between the planets of expansion and contraction contrasts the boundless faith of Jupiter in Pisces with the focused pragmatism of Saturn in Virgo to reframe long-term plans. These aspects will return on August 16, 2010 and March 28, 2011 to provide a more strategic view of professional and other major life issues. Moods can shift between hope and fear as we seek a new relationship between idealism and reality. Moves based on careful consideration and executed with patience can provide a greater deal of control over future events.

Full Moon in Sagittarius
Thursday, May 27, 4:07 pm PDT, 7:07 pm EDT

The Full Moon in Sagittarius inspires us to aim for the stars. This contrasts with the Sun in Gemini’s focus on more immediate concerns. Looking in both directions at the same time can be overwhelming, so it’s helpful to learn how to shift the mind’s focus from present issues to long-range matters. Discerning the difference between facts and opinions helps to reduce arguments and sift through waves of information to find the most meaningful data.

Uranus in Aries
Thursday, May 27, 6:48 pm PDT, 9:48 pm EDT

The planet of revolution makes its first foray into pioneering Aries in almost 84 years to spark an awakening of human consciousness. We get a quick taste of what the future may bring before Uranus backs into sensitive Pisces on August 13 prior to returning to Aries on March 11, 2011. A sense of urgency rises with unexpected events, both cataclysmic and revelatory, that seem to be accelerating the pace of daily life.

Saturn Direct
Sunday, May 30

The forward turn of structuring Saturn increases our grip on reality. We can regain traction on projects that have slipped beyond our control since Saturn turned retrograde in late January. Self-trust is the foundation stone that leads to the discipline and commitment needed to run our lives more efficiently.

Neptune Retrograde
Monday, May 31

The planet of ideals turns inward so we can reevaluate recent fantasies and figure out which are due for rejection and which may be applicable in the real world. Holding onto an old dream is draining unless there are concrete steps that can be taken to give it some substance.

Jupiter in Aries
Saturday, June 5, 11:29 pm PDT, Sunday, June 6, 2:29 am EDT

Optimistic Jupiter’s jump into innovative Aries fires up fresh concepts and awakens enthusiasm. A desire to learn from direct experience, though, makes it more difficult to trust others’ opinions. Clashing ideologies can be destructive, requiring some willingness to compromise to avoid heightening conflict. Jupiter returns to Pisces on September 8, initiating a period of reflection before returning to Aries on January 22, 2011 when new rockets of aspiration will be ready to launch.

Mars in Virgo
Sunday, June 6, 11:11 pm PDT, Monday, June 7, 2:11 am EDT

The warrior planet finally ends almost eight months in creative and proud Leo with its entry into service-oriented Virgo. Refining techniques and developing tools that increase efficiency are vital now. However, a tendency to be more finicky about methods could amp up tension at work. Remember, the ultimate goal is to be more productive, which may require flexibility about the best way to get the job done.

Jupiter conjunct Uranus
Tuesday, June 8, 4:25 am PDT, 7:25 am EDT

This union electrifies minds with wild new perceptions that can alter our views about reality. While explosive events are more likely now, this aspect energizes intellects and increases intuition. It’s something like getting upgraded computer chips in our brains that can process information at higher speeds. Brilliant breakthroughs and inventions are its gifts but overheated minds can explode with anger if reason is burned up in firestorms of opinion. This conjunction will repeat on September 10, 2010 and January 4, 2011, providing two more rounds of intellectual discovery.

Mercury in Gemini
Wednesday, June 9, 10:41 pm PDT, Thursday, June 10, 1:41 am EDT

The communication planet’s entry into its airy home sign facilitates the flow of information. Thoughts tend to wander off track with Mercury in mutable Gemini, requiring more effort to maintain concentration. This transit enlivens conversations with curiosity and intellectual agility that can help overcome extremist ideas.

The New Moon in Taurus sprouts seeds of solid values and moneymaking ideas. Yet bringing those tender shoots to maturity requires that they are planted in the fertile soil of reality and are watered with commitment. It is better to grow one healthy plant than to scatter our energy so that nothing in the garden reaches its full potential.

Have a great month!

New Moon in Aries
Wednesday, April 14, 5:29 am PDT, 8:29 am EDT

The New Moon in Aries is the true beginning of the astrological year. It’s a time for taking initiative and getting projects off the ground. However, this year’s Sun-Moon conjunction in spontaneous Aries occurs three days before Mercury turns retrograde and five days before the Sun enters earthy Taurus. Therefore, we have a brief window of opportunity to ignite inspirational sparks that will soon require the fuel of patience and commitment to fan enduring flames of change.

Mercury Retrograde
Saturday, April 17

The messenger planet’s backward turn marks a three-week period when double-checking data, maintaining equipment and communicating carefully are recommended. A tendency to make more errors than usual is common during this cycle. Yet the gift of Mercury retrograde is that it provides a second chance to reconnect with people and to tie up loose ends. Completing unfinished business and reviewing systems to make them more efficient are constructive uses of this transit.

Sun in Taurus
Monday, April 19, 9:30 pm PDT, Tuesday, April 20, 12:30 am EDT

The Sun’s entry into the mid-spring sign Taurus is a time to indulge the senses. This increases awareness in the body and engages us in the delights of the Earth. While it’s healthy to regain a degree of childlike innocence, the dark side of this sign is stubborn resistance to new ideas and activities. It’s fine to dig in your heels when it’s about matters of real value but excessive attachment to comfort can close hearts and minds to complicated but potentially important issues.

Chiron in Pisces
Monday, April 19, 11:57 pm PDT, Tuesday, April 20, 2:57 am EDT

The ‘Wounded Healer’ moves into compassionate Pisces, amplifying sensitivity to the suffering of ourselves and others. This helps humanity recognize how closely we are all connected and encourages us to support one another. However, it’s essential that we do not see ourselves or others as victims. Experiencing pain does not mean that we need pity when it is real love and understanding that heal our wounds.

Venus in Gemini
Saturday, April 24, 10:05 pm PDT, Sunday, April 25, 1:05 am EDT

Variety is desirable with Venus in multi-faceted Gemini. Boredom takes the fun out of overly predictable relationships where the old forms of fun just aren’t cutting it any more. It’s time to explore new ways to play and fresh ways to stimulate minds. Start up a conversation with a stranger, learn a new language and have some fun with flirting to get the breezes of desire moving in your life again. Just take things lightly as this is a chance to taste life’s joys without making any serious commitments or long range plans.

Saturn opposite Uranus
Monday, April 26

The fourth and next-to-last opposition of the planets of order and chaos builds pressure to radically change old systems and break down the walls of fear and resistance. Don’t try to hang onto something that’s falling apart unless you can find a fresh approach to rebuild it in a new and different way. The last opposition of these planets occurs on July 26 so this is the final preparation for letting go of outmoded rules and meaningless responsibilities. You will be more constructive when your actions are conscious and up-to-date rather than simple habits or reflexes.

Full Moon in Scorpio
Wednesday, April 28, 5:18 am PDT, 8:18 am EDT

The Full Moon in Scorpio intensifies emotions, evokes jealousy and stirs up financial concerns. However, when we are willing to descend into the shadow of doubt and fear we can unearth psychological secrets that are keys to setting us free. Still, assertive Mars forms stressful squares to the Sun and Moon that can shorten tempers and trigger conflicts. However, mental Mercury in peaceful Taurus is joined to the Sun to inject moments of calm and clarity that can redirect these impulses in a more creative direction.

Mercury Direct
Tuesday, May 11

The forward turn of the communication planet permits messages to flow more swiftly and stagnant projects to start gaining momentum. It’s a gradual process, though, that will take several weeks before we fully return to a more normal pace of daily life. Still, this is a chance to carefully institute innovative practices and initiate new connections in a controlled and cautious manner.

The New Moon in Aries stirs the urge to act and get life moving in a fresh direction. The challenge, though, is to maintain the sense of urgency that motivates bold action without becoming so impulsive that guns are shot before proper targets have been found. It’s better to take your time to decide exactly where you want to aim your life before making a significant move.

Pluto Turns Retrograde — Transformation Time!

Pluto, the planet of transformation, takes a whopping 248 years to complete a single cycle of rotation around the Sun. On average, it spends 21 years in each sign and 5 months of each year in retrograde.

Pluto turns retrograde in Capricorn on April 6 at 7:34 pm PDT (2:34 am April 7 UT), signaling in a time of destruction and rebuilding along with rejuvenation and regeneration. It is a time for fresh starts and dead ends. The things that are most important to us and we hang on to the tightest, may suddenly be taken away from us. In addition, we may be forced to reevaluate the things we cherish most.

A Pluto retrograde period makes us focus on, eliminate and release the old, outworn, outdated and obsolete in our lives. We will be urged to let go of old attitudes, communication and thinking patterns that no longer serve our purpose. We may feel the need to re-evaluate our needs for security and asked to eliminate rigid emotions that no longer serve us. This is an excellent time to undergo an internal form of house cleaning, and look into ourselves to determine exactly what we do and do not need.

Pluto retrograde imparts an intense power for investigation, so we should use this time to assess what reoccurring patterns in our lives make us feel out of control, where and why do we continually give our power away, and under what circumstances do we react so defensively that we elicit attacks from others. Pluto retrograde marks a time wherein we should seek to gain greater control over our lives.

Another important astrological event happening on April 7 is retrograde Saturn, moving back into Virgo for a final time in its retrograde motion. Saturn is the planet of self-discipline and duty and Virgo rules work and health, so now is the time to get serious about everything practical. Evaluate work processes and streamline for efficiency. Saturn is firm about putting down limits so at times it will feel like all work and no play. Learning to be good to yourself is also part of Saturn’s lesson, so now is the time to learn not to overdo things. If you’re realistic now, then by mid July when Saturn moves on into fair minded Libra, you will be healthier, better organized and ready for Saturn’s direct influence.

Mercury Turns Retrograde: Relax and Use Your Sense of Humor!

When Mercury is retrograde, everyone’s thinking is more introspective. With Mercury retrograde in Capricorn, people with this sign prominent in their charts will be especially prone to such introspection. Capricorn is a cardinal sign, so the other cardinal signs — such as Aries, Cancer and Libra — will also receive a touch of the lash!

Mercury retro in Capricorn, a Saturn-ruled sign, can become critical, penetrating and somewhat suspicious, as well as thoughtful and diplomatic. Learning to relax and developing a sense of humor will be important for our emotional and physical health! The pragmatic, material world will take precedence during this time, so hold on to your valuables and assets, and make sure you have something saved for a rainy day.

All areas of communication will be affected in this retrograde period, including matters related to teaching, healing, professional advice and workplace relationships — especially those between superiors and subordinates. Since this retrograde period begins the day after Christmas, beware of travel snafus, mail and delivery mishaps, and missed appointments of all kinds. Back up your computers and be careful of documents going astray.

Mars Turns Retrograde: Slow Down and Evaluate!

Mars, the planet of action, turns retrograde in the sign of Leo on December 20, 2009, just before the Winter Solstice on December 21. Mars is the energy that helps all of us go for it and express our desires. So when Mars travels retrograde; its excited, active energy becomes covert and calculated, its motives are hidden. When Mars is retrograde, everyone’s thought patterns are more introspective and we tend to think about ways of acting on issues and concerns which relate to the sign involved.

Positively, Mars retrograde can give us a chance to think before acting; to assess our motives and aggressions before reacting; to find our inner demons and send them packing before they continue to interfere with our life.

Mars turns retrograde only once every two years and two months, but the effects of each period differ, according to the sign in which the retrograde happens. With Mars retrograde in Leo, people with Sun or Moon in Leo, or Leo rising, will be especially prone to such introspection. We will reconsider personal views and opinions about life, since it presents an opportunity to gain insight into unconscious motivations, the hidden motivations that cause us to act without thinking. Since Leo is a fixed Sign, the other fixed Signs, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius, will also feel the effects most keenly. Scorpio in particular is liable to conflict and headstrong behavior in the arena of career and public image, because Mars rules Scorpio.

Mars retro in Leo may generate an aggressive, egocentric mood, and those most affected may be inclined toward grandiose gestures and improbable schemes. Enthusiasm and inspiration, however, seem muted during this phase, as anxieties develop around image and ego-desires. This may not be the best time to start a new creative project, and if you do, you may abandon it or just lose energy for it when Mars stations direct. It is, however, a great time to complete long-term projects. Mars turns direct again on March 10, 2010, in the first degree of Leo.

Enlist the energies of your progressed chart to understand where to focus your energies for maximum return. The continual movement of the planets through your life affects the events that shape your future. A progressed chart locates the signs, the aspects and the house positions for each of the planets for any given year and tells you how long they will remain in those positions. These changes show you when to act on the potential revealed by your natal chart and when to embrace growth in your life. Awareness of your progressed chart helps you to make informed decisions about every aspect of your life.

TUESDAY DECEMBER 1, 2009

Uranus is the oddball of the solar system. For starters, it rolls along its side — on its equator — instead of spinning upright in its orbit the way planets typically do. Uranus is also in retrograde for more than five months out of every Earth year.

Uranus, the planet of rebellion, turns direct on December 1. Astrologically, Uranus liberates you from the shackles of convention and applies pressure to change whatever is stagnant in your life. Uranus rules electromagnetic energy and is like a lightning storm that creates chaos as it cleans the air, revealing a fresh new world once the storm has cleared. It is a new day — almost a new year — and the road ahead needs your help in paving it. It’s not every year that Uranus turns direct within hours of a full Moon! (The full Moon in Gemini occurs on December 1 PST, and December 2 EST). This year, your desire for independence and freedom is heightened, and the full Moon dials up your emotions even more.

Discover where Uranus appears in your own birth chart — and what role it plays in your life — with our birth chart or natal readings. These reflect the factors at play in the universe at the moment of your birth; these readings also hold significant indicators of qualities and tendencies that make up your personality, as well as the potential within you. Acquaint yourself with what the stars say, and decide for yourself if you want to put in the effort to fulfill your potential, or deny it.

———————–

Saturn, the planet of discipline, is a slow moving planet which stays an average of two and a half years in each sign of the zodiac. On October 29, Saturn moves from Virgo into Libra impacting many areas of our lives, especially our relationships and love life. And for the next three years our focus and energy is towards peace, fairness, and a well balanced life.

Saturn’s task in Libra is to create harmonious relationships, and break up relationships that are no longer useful or positive for you. You will become acutely aware of any relationship which is unfair and will seek to balance the scales of equality and have peace and harmony in your life.

Saturn in Libra’s has a duty to reestablish harmony and balance. Venus, the ruler of Libra, is also in Libra. This emphasizes Saturn’s purpose in Libra of establishing healthy partnerships and especially romantic relationships, and as Saturn moves through Libra, it may become common to hear about divorces and breakups as it uncovers unhealthy patterns that have been ignored. Libra’s themes of fairness, diplomacy, civility, peace and relationship will get lots of attention and whether you are married, seriously committed or single, it is time to take your relationships more seriously than you have for awhile.

New Moon in Libra
Saturday, October 17, 10:33 pm PDT, Sunday, October 18, 1:33 am EDT

The New Moon in Libra sows seeds of relationships and new alliances. It provides opportunities for rebalancing partnerships to create harmony and justice. Helpful 120-degree trines from imaginative Neptune, compassionate Chiron and generous Jupiter enrich this Sun-Moon conjunction with faith, vision and confidence. High ideals and forward thinking bridge gaps between opposing points of view by revealing truths common to both sides. Cooperation does not require a compromise of principles, yet a willingness to overlook minor differences can produce major breakthroughs.

Sun in Scorpio
Thursday, October 22, 11:44 pm PDT, Friday, October 23, 2:44 am EDT

The Sun’s entry into this fixed water sign intensifies emotions as we descend into a deep well of feelings. Ambivalence dissipates and desires grow stronger to pull us with powerful attractions or repel us with distaste. Scorpio is a sign of extremes where we eliminate people, objects and activities that cost more than they give back in return. It is appropriate to measure what we receive in relationships and make adjustments if we come up short. This tough scrutiny cuts through clutter and overcomes politeness to open the way to greater intimacy.

Mercury in Scorpio
Wednesday, October 28, 3:09 am PDT, 6:09 am EDT

Eyes narrow and brows furrow as we peer beneath the surface to ferret out life’s mysteries with Mercury in Scorpio. This intellectual planet dives below reason to sniff out clues hidden from logical minds. Communication weighs heavily as each word, and even the silence between them, is packed with meaning. Mistrust, lies and secrets are the dark sides of the Messenger planet’s journey through enigmatic Scorpio. However, deep psychological insights and the capacity to connect beyond the limits of language are its gifts

Full Moon in Taurus
Monday, November 2, 11:14 am PST, 2:14 pm EST

Resources take the spotlight with the earthy Taurus Moon’s opposition to the Scorpio Sun. We are weighing a sense of plenty (Taurus) against fears of scarcity (Scorpio). Aggressive Mars in Leo’s tense 90-degree square to the Sun and Moon spurs competition for money and attention. The real battle, though, is not with others but within ourselves as we seek validation and approval. Flexibility helps to overcome the resistance of this T-square in the fixed signs Taurus, Scorpio and Leo. Spending energy to develop new talents to create a bright future is more effective than exhausting ourselves trying to recreate the past.

Neptune Direct
Wednesday, November 4

The forward shift of the planet of dreams brings inspiration to the forefront. Private aspirations may finally be expressed openly as we tap into imagination to enrich our lives. Spirituality surfaces to put our material concerns into a more balanced perspective.

Venus in Scorpio
Saturday, November 7, 4:23 pm PST, 7:23 pm EST

The planet of love simmers in passionate Scorpio, intensifying desires and provoking fears. Concerns that there isn’t enough to go around can spur jealousy and undermine confidence. Yet alluring Venus in Scorpio helps us find hidden resources that can refill bank accounts and resurrect relationships. Untapped reserves of love and pleasure await those willing to let go of old assumptions, reshape their ideas about relationships and make profound changes.

Saturn square Pluto
Sunday, November 15

The first of three challenging squares between astrology’s heaviest planets can put the squeeze on the economy and rattle the swords of war. Yet Saturn in accommodating Libra can be a voice of reason that tempers the dominating tendencies of Pluto in Capricorn. This aspect will return on January 31 and August 21, 2010, providing two more chances to establish frameworks of justice and decency to contain the forces of greed and intolerance with new laws and alliances.

Mercury in Sagittarius
Sunday, November 15, 4:28 pm PST, 7:28 pm EST

Chatty Mercury is especially outspoken in opinionated Sagittarius. Unfiltered speech can make us laugh with joy or cry in pain at the blunt honesty we hear. Exaggeration is a risk since data-oriented Mercury plays fast and loose with facts in this enthusiastic fire sign. Double-check your sources since details can be overlooked in the excitement of a grand idea or a hyper-caffinated sales pitch.

The New Moon in Libra opens the curtain on a new start in relationships. This Sun-Moon conjunction in the partnership sign is supported by trines from Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron in visionary Aquarius. Framing our connections in a larger context will reveal common interests and undercut rivalries. Saturn’s shift into Libra on October 29 reinforces the theme of cooperation and compromise that is necessary for bringing peace to the planet.

OCTOBER ASTROLOGY

Mercury is busy as we start the month of October, which means you will have a lot on your mind. On October 4, Mercury sextiles Mars and creates a time of opportunity for us all. Now is the chance to get people interested in your ideas and projects. Then Mercury conjuncts Saturn on October 7 for the third time in this series, making this the perfect time to put the finishing touches on your plans. On October 7, this communicator planet enters Libra, when your attention shifts from work projects to social plans. Your ideas are challenged on October 10 as Mercury squares Pluto. Mercury trines Jupiter on the 20th, and big ideas and stimulating conversation can help you to plan for your future. Mercury forms another favorable trine — this time with Neptune on the 24th — forming one of the most creative, imaginative and even psychic combinations among our planets.

However, the biggest news of this month is Jupiter turning direct on the 12th. On the 10th, this generous planet of benevolence forms a supportive trine to the Sun providing us with an excellent networking bonanza. Then Jupiter turns direct in Aquarius on October 13, and the delays that may have hampered your progress now get a green light. Jupiter rules our potential for growth and expansion on many levels: physical, intellectual, spiritual and cultural, along with the accumulation of material assets, power and status. It also rules our optimism and aspirations.

Venus loves nothing better than being in its own sign — Libra — which it moves into on October 14. Even if you’re a loner by nature, this lovely transit (which will last until November 7) will lead you into the company of others. This is relationship-building time! A new Moon in Libra on the 17th will also give all lovebirds plenty of new energy. Use this new Moon energy to introduce something fresh and exciting into your relationship. Relationships are in the limelight again when Saturn moves into Libra on the 29th. Whether you’re married, seriously committed or single, you’re prompted to take your relationships more seriously.

All celestial movements have influence, but you are much more affected by certain transits depending on the placement of the planets in your unique birth chart.

New Moon in Leo
Thursday, August 20, 3:02 am PDT, 6:02 am EDT

The creative power and charisma of this Leo New Moon are infused with an extra dose of imagination thanks to an opposition with mystical Neptune. Faith and compassion are also present, yet there’s a risk of being misled by fantasies when we float on clouds of hope that aren’t matched by reality. Expansive Jupiter and Chiron also oppose the Sun-Moon conjunction, fanning the flames of creativity without caring much for details. However, agile Mars in Gemini forms a favorable trine to the New Moon that brings a diverse set of skills for tackling a wide variety of tasks.

Sun in Virgo
Saturday, August 22, 4:39 pm PDT, 7:39 pm EDT

The heartfelt impulses of the Leo New Moon quickly come back to earth when the Sun enters practical Virgo. Now’s the time to get down to the business of making dreams real and turning our attention to more mundane tasks. Meticulous Virgo breaks big projects down into simple steps that, if followed, can produce excellent results. However, overanalyzing issues can paralyze us with perfectionism. Recognizing what’s needed and proceeding to do it instead of stressing over every tiny detail taps into the incredible competence of Virgo without getting lost in the small stuff.

Mars in Cancer
Tuesday, August 25, 10:16 am PDT, 1:16 pm EDT

Mars’ drive is blunted and his passions tempered in the self-protective water sign of Cancer. This planetary position is useful for defending home and family or applying a steady gentle force. However, passive-aggressive behavior is common since the overt expression of anger is repressed. A tendency to grouse and grumble replaces confrontation, yet tender, gentle care is given more easily.

Mercury in Libra
Tuesday, August 25, 1:18 pm PDT, 4:18 pm EDT

Mental Mercury is comfortable in airy Libra where open-minded objectivity rules. The capacity to see both sides of any question serves to build bridges with others yet makes it harder to choose one answer. Charming conversations and kind words reduce tension while, perhaps, hiding deeper, less agreeable emotions.

Venus in Leo
Wednesday, August 26, 9:12 am PDT, 12:12 pm EDT

Love is bright and brassy with Venus parading into Leo. It’s time to amplify displays of affection, to give more generously and to receive gifts with grace. Life’s pleasures grow grand and lavish and romance becomes more elaborate. We need standing ovations, dozens of roses, fancy dinners and heroic acts to touch our hearts. Expect drama in relationships, especially when vanity and insecurity are present. A sense of humor keeps emotions from going to extremes.

Full Moon in Pisces
Friday, September 4, 9:03 am PDT, 12:03 pm EDT

The dreamy Pisces Full Moon opposes the Sun in pragmatic Virgo, contrasting idealism and realism. It’s not wise to escape into a fantasyland nor to deny the yearnings of the soul. But we needn’t choose between them. It is, rather, a time to overcome the illusion of separation and recognize the steps it takes to bring them together. Mars in cautious Cancer forms a supportive trine to the Full Moon that encourages us to trust the intelligence of our feelings to guide us toward our goals.

Mercury Retrograde
Sunday, September 6, 9:40 pm PDT, Monday, September 7, 12:40 am EDT

The messenger planet’s shift into reverse tends to complicate communications, travel and technical issues during its three-week cycle. Double checking details and data until Mercury turns direct on September 29 will save more time and energy than it costs. Cleaning up unfinished paperwork and reconnecting with people from the past are constructive ways to utilize this period effectively.

Pluto Direct
Friday, September 11

This subtle shift of direction for the slow-moving planet of depth and transformation is not likely to be immediately evident. But over the coming months secrets, suppressed feelings and unexpressed desires are likely to find their way to the surface. If you’ve been waiting to make a major change, the tide is now turning in your favor.

Saturn opposite Uranus
Tuesday, September 15, 5:50 am PDT, 8:50 am EDT

The third of five oppositions that began in November 2008 and finishes in July 2010 can be a critical point in the ongoing face-off between conservative Saturn and progressive Uranus. The collective and individual struggle to replace crumbling structures with new ones could come to a head now. Tension builds between forces resistant to change and those demanding it. Saturn responds well to flexibility, bending enough to allow movement, and Uranus benefits from patience to assure that its bolts of brilliance are properly aimed.

Mercury in Virgo
Thursday, September 17, 8:26 pm PDT, 11:26 pm EDT

The smallest details come into focus with retrograde Mercury backing into its earthy home sign. Microscopic vision enables us to discern hard to see patterns and untangle tiny knots. However, perceptions may become so narrow that it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. Avoid obsessing on minor matters unless they’re critical to a larger plan.

The lights are bright with a Leo New Moon. Hearts open with youthful innocence, inviting play and love without ambition. It’s easy to be swept away with romance for a person or an idea. Giant Jupiter, compassionate Chiron and imaginative Neptune’s opposition to this lunation expand the boundaries of desire beyond the realm of reason. Still, we can be inspired by these visions if we take them as suggestions for the future rather than specific goals. Stretching ourselves to bring more joy to life is rewarding at any level of expression.

——————————–

August starts off astrologically with very favorable Mercury aspects. First, Mercury trines powerful Pluto on August 3 making this an excellent time to sign contracts, sell ideas, confirm agreements and, to deepen your understanding of what is workable and what needs to be let go. Then, Mercury sextiles Venus on August 7, which keeps conversations from getting overly intense.

August 5 brings about a dramatic full Moon lunar eclipse in Aquarius. The full Moon is always an emotional high-tide time, and with the eclipse, feelings will be extra heightened — expect drama! On August 10, Mars squares Saturn, and you may feel that all your efforts have hit a sudden stop. You’ll be ready to move forward again with Jupiter playing cheerleader for your plans when Mars trines Jupiter on August 13. On August 14, the Sun is opposite Jupiter, and this is a time for reflection. Are your plans working out? Are there new ideas that now seem viable? When Mars squares Uranus on August 14, it’s your signal to make whatever changes you think necessary to bring your plans to fruition.

The Lunar Nodes change signs next — they move backwards through the zodiac and the north node moves from Aquarius into Capricorn, and the south node enters Cancer. This is big stuff! Advice for this transit: Get serious. Be brave. Work toward your goals. Instead of looking to others to take care of you, the north node in Capricorn means it’s time to be an adult, step up and accept responsibility for both good and bad.

On August 22, the Sun moves from Leo to Virgo, and you’re ready to focus your energy; you‘re eager to accomplish something. Happy Birthday to all Virgos!

However, the landscape changes and the environment heats up as Mars enters emotional Cancer and Mercury enters diplomatic Libra on August 25 and immediately square each other. Don’t act on anything that doesn’t feel right, but watch out for oversensitivity and a tendency to over react. Keep in mind that your words and actions carry a lot of weight right now, so think carefully before you tangle-up with anyone. We end the month with Venus entering Leo and forming a quincunx with Pluto on August 26, while Mercury squares Pluto and Mars opposes Pluto on the same day. This is a cosmic power struggle, so watch out for a war of words or actions when the issues of power and control arise. Try not to get embroiled in the rhetoric.

New Moon in Cancer
Tuesday, July 21, 7:35 pm PDT, 10:35 pm EDT

It’s time to let go of old habits and outmoded ways of operating with this Solar Eclipse in the last degree of sentimental Cancer. Family patterns resurface to bring unconscious reactions to awareness so that you can recognize them and make needed changes. If you are sad about the past, have a good cry and then move on. Inventive Uranus is in a creative trine with this New Moon, opening emotions to new forms of expression, awakening intuition to reveal unconventional ways of finding security and discovering fresh paths to freedom.

Sun in Leo
Wednesday, July 22, 9:36 am PDT, 12:36 pm EDT

The Sun’s entry into its heart-centered home sign evokes the need for recognition. Feeling important comes as the result of what you do rather than how much attention you seek. Dive into the pool of your own creativity, drawing on the innocence of childhood, and you can be enriched with joyous creativity. Mature Leo energy is magnanimous and self-confident while its less developed side is insecure and egocentric. The integrative Lunar North Node in group-oriented Aquarius, Leo’s opposite sign, shows that being of service to others aligns personal ambition with community needs.

Venus in Cancer
Friday, July 31, 6:28 pm PDT, 9:28 pm EDT

Relationships grow more tender with sweet Venus in sensitive Cancer. Yet there is also a self-protective quality that encourages shyness. A reticence to reach out to others is understandable when Venus opposes manipulative Pluto on August 1. We easily feel threatened and can project power on to others. Yet it is when we are vulnerable that we can experience desire at its deepest levels and trust ourselves enough to show it. Excessive defensiveness builds barriers to intimacy but a flexible approach to self-preservation invites others in.

Mercury in Virgo
Sunday, August 2, 4:07 pm PDT, 7:07 pm EDT

Cerebral Mercury’s entry into its earthy home sign sharpens minds. The upside is a gift for analysis and the capacity to comprehend complicated subjects. The downside, though, can be a narrow perceptual focus that filters out information that can’t be categorized. Still, critical thinking is an asset as long as its purpose is to clarify issues with discernment instead of rejecting anything that can’t be logically explained.

Full Moon in Aquarius
Wednesday,August 5, 5:55 pm PDT, 8:55 pm EDT

The Aquarius Full Moon Lunar Eclipse awakens us to the relationship between the individual and the collective. The opposing Leo Sun sees itself as the center of the universe with singular authority and responsibility to run the world. Group-oriented Aquarius challenges this point of view with a variety of perspectives that do not emanate from one consistent source. However, for individuals feeling isolated in their daily struggles, this lunation is a reminder that we swim in a sea rich with the nutrients of others’ ideas and energies. Tapping into networks and teams to participate in this larger reality lifts much of the burden of going it alone.

Two eclipses make this a month of transition when we may be deflected from plans and principles, forcing us to re-examine our actions and reconsider our beliefs. The New Moon in Cancer is somewhat contradictory in its relationship to the past and the future. The conjunction of the Sun and Moon represents the beginning of a new cycle, yet this one in the last degree of nostalgic Cancer may have us looking over our shoulders as we start to walk ahead. It’s appropriate to draw on the wisdom of past experience as long as we don’t allow old failures to serve as models for new defeats. They say that you can never go home again, but this New Moon provides an opportunity to do that metaphorically to redecorate dingy rooms of doubt with fresh colors of hope.

Full Moon in Capricorn, Lunar Eclipse, July 7, 2009

There is a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, Chandra Grahan, on July 7, 2009. It is not visible to the naked eye and the timing is only of academic interest. The partial lunar eclipse takes place in Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, North America, United States, Canada, Caribbean Islands and South America. The eclipse is will be happening in Los Angeles – 00:38 to 02:39 & New York – 03:38 to 05:39. It is not visible in India, Asia and Europe.

Uranus, the planet of rebellion, turned retrograde on July 1.

Uranus is the oddball of the solar system. For starters, it rolls along its side — on its equator — instead of spinning upright in its orbit the way planets typically do. Uranus is also in retrograde for more than half of the year. This means it is only direct for two weeks, and is retrograde for about five months out of every Earth year.

Astrologically, Uranus liberates you from the shackles of convention and applies pressure to change whatever is stagnant in your life. Uranus rules electromagnetic energy and is like a lightning storm that creates chaos as it cleans the air, revealing a fresh new world once the storm has cleared.

But when Uranus is retrograde, expect the unexpected. Wonderful and startling surprises are very possible. This retrograde may set your wild side free, or it could make a notoriously outgoing person uncharacteristically shy.

To know exactly what to expect, review the placement of Uranus in your birth chart. If Uranus is direct in a chart, intuitive and inventive impulses flow on a regular basis. However, when Uranus is retrograde in a birth chart, rebellious urges tend to bottle up and then burst forth, seemingly out of nowhere. A retrograde period seems to reawaken freedom urges within individuals, causing them to suddenly and unconsciously rebel against any ruts or confinement in life

MERCURY DIRECT:

Mercury, the planet of communications, finally turns direct in Taurus on May 30 and the second Mercury retrograde of 2009 will officially be over! It is time for the misunderstandings, confusions and fuzzy thinking to end and conversations to begin anew! Usually the message associated with Mercury turning direct is ‘full speed ahead’ — but this one is a little different. The caution flag is still up.

Over the next week and a half, Mercury advances toward a square with mystical but often-confusing Neptune. Listen carefully to what people are telling you and be sure of their intentions before signing agreements. This aspect is great for meditation and heightening your creative and psychic abilities, but when you need your logical mind to work at warp speed, you’ll have to pay extra attention to make sure you make great decisions.

Mercury spent most of the retrograde period in the sign of Taurus, and will be turning direct in this sign that rules money and possessions. Taurus doesn’t like to give up stuff, and most of us have had to give up something in these tough economic times. We have all been directly affected in one way or another with business slowdowns and layoffs. Now as Mercury turns direct, we can use that grief to our benefit if we focus and do something about it.

——————————–

NEPTUNE DIRECT:

It’s time to tune in to your deepest core principles and create a larger vision! Neptune takes 14 years to transit through a sign, and has been transiting through Aquarius since 1998. On May 28, as Neptune begins its yearly retrograde — a period that will last until November 5 — be sure to revisit a dream, an ideal or a vision you’ve had. Think about how far you’ve come over the last 11 years, as you have been prompted to make positive, healthy changes in your life. Neptune has been in the same area of your chart prompting you to invest in your life vision. Examine the house in your own chart where the yearly retrograde is occurring for greater insight.

Neptune in Aquarius represents the quest for a better life, for freedom, equality, peace and contentment. With this placement we are all tuned in to our hopes, wishes and dreams. With this retrograde, see how you can realign yourself and your life to encompass these principles. Expansive, generous Jupiter conjuncts Neptune during this turnaround, so this is an especially idealistic time. But keep in mind that Mercury is about to turn direct in a close square to Neptune, and your thinking is not at its most logical! So, dream big but hire a fact-checker Virgo friend to help keep you on track!

New Moon in Gemini
Sunday, May 24, 5:11 am PDT, 8:11 am EDT

The New Moon in Gemini brings a shower of ideas and fresh perspectives to refresh minds and revive the art of conversation. A tendency to become distracted by so many interesting concepts and individuals can, however, make it easy to lose sight of priorities. Wandering aimlessly could become especially costly now as Pluto forms a stressful 150-degree quincunx to this Sun-Moon conjuntion. This potent planet demands concentration so reducing the range of activities and interests is vital to turn this mentally stimulating time into a productive one.

Jupiter conjunct Neptune
Wednesday, May 27

The first of three conjunctions between bountiful Jupiter and imaginative Neptune is rich with insights and inspiration. This expansive pair offers an elevated point of view that makes it possible to rise above the current situation to recognize patterns of meaning normally lost in the mass of daily details. Faith flourishes, but fantasy can run amok, as well, with this idealistic union. Jupiter and Neptune with meet again on July 10 and December 21 to help us revisit the higher realms where dreams are born and hopes fulfilled.

Neptune Retrograde
Thursday, May 28

Spiritual Neptune’s retrograde turn is a subtle shift that’s unlikely to be noticed as a significant event. Yet it does suggest that we may be stepping back from our worldly dreams to seek fulfillment within. Divinity is alive everywhere yet may be more readily found inside each of us, rather than through external teachers and religious institutions until Neptune turns direct in early November.

Mercury Direct
Saturday, May 30

Cerebral Mercury ends its three-week retrograde period, reducing the likelihood of the little snafus for which this cycle is known. The information planet will slowly pick up speed in the days ahead, getting projects back on track and facilitating an easier flow of communication. Still, with Mercury in earthy Taurus, rebuilding a solid foundation is needed before new endeavors can take root.

Mars in Taurus
Sunday, May 31, 2:19 pm PDT, 5:19 pm EDT

Assertive Mars is uncomfortable in Taurus where it has to bide its time and transform from a warrior into a farmer. Preserving existing structures and behaviors comes more easily than creating new ones with Mars in this fixed sign. Patience and persistence, though, demonstrate reliability and earn trust. Be alert to falling into ruts by stubbornly refusing to try anything new and using resistance as a form of passive-aggressive behavior.

Venus in Taurus
Saturday, June 6, 2:07 am PDT, 5:07 am EDT

Unlike Mars, sweet Venus is very comfortable in Taurus where her sensuality and lust for life are readily fulfilled. It is time to slow down, put work on the back burner and indulge in the pleasures of the senses. Affection is shown through loyalty and sharing in the delights of simple moments when touch, taste, smell and sound make us feel totally at home on planet Earth. As always with Taurus, the downside is becoming rigid and refusing to appreciate new and unfamiliar experiences.

Full Moon in Sagittarius
Sunday, June 7, 11:12 am PDT, 2:12 pm EDT

The Sagittarius Full Moon usually spurs a taste for adventure and a willingness to take risks. This is the sign that pursues the ultimate truth or the best party in town. This month, though, the festive feelings may be muted as stern Saturn makes a tense 90-degree square to this Sun-Moon opposition. Poorly planned schemes may collapse under the weight of reality, yet yearnings approached with patience and commitment may eventually be fulfilled. This is a race that will be won by those who carefully measure every step along the way.

Mercury in Gemini
Saturday, June 13, 7:48 pm PDT, 10:48 pm EDT

Mercury’s return to its airy home sign brings the speedy planet close to the point where it went retrograde on May 6. Now the connections and ideas delayed by that cycle are about to kick back into a higher gear. Mental processes will move more quickly, however, there’s a danger of an information overload if appetites for data are excessive. While chatting up everyone and finding everything interesting makes life more fun, a selective mind will filter out the noise to hear the most beautiful music.

Jupiter Retrograde
Monday, June 15

Gigantic Jupiter’s backwards turn, following on the heels of Neptune’s retrograde shift, points to the wealth of wisdom that dwells within everyone. This guru planet is signaling that answers are available when we look in our hearts and follow our intuition. External teachers have some value but only if their ideas are verified by direct personal experience.

Sun in Cancer
Saturday, June 20, 10:46 pm PDT, Sunday, June 21, 1:46 am EDT

The Sun’s entry into Cancer marks the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the start of Winter south of the equator. It’s a major turning point of the year in which we grow more conscious of our roots and the family patterns that continue to shape our lives. The point, however, is not to reinforce fearful habits by constructing barriers to the world. It is, rather, a reminder to give birth to ourselves, to connect the past and present and create a future appropriate for tomorrow instead of clinging to the limits of yesterday.

The New Moon in Gemini brightens minds and enlivens conversations with curiosity and conviviality. There’s less need to judge now as all information has value. While this can encourage trickiness and avoidance of difficult issues, Pluto’s aspect makes complete escape impossible. Flexibility is a gift of Gemini and foolishness its curse. New ideas do not require belief upon encountering them. This is an early stage of intellectual relationship that requires time and experience to be measured.

Have a great month!

——————————–

Mercury turns retrograde in Gemini on May 6, and turns direct in Taurus, on the 30th of the month.

Mercury usually turns retrograde three times a year — however, in 2009 Mercury turns retrograde four different times. For this second retrograde of the year, Mercury turns retrograde in its own sign, Gemini, and it’s a time for a thorough review for everyone. The normal Mercury-retro rules all apply: don’t sign contracts; do not buy products that are communication-related, such as phones, mp3 players, and computers. The same goes for anything travel-related, such as cars and plane tickets.

There is a full Moon in Scorpio on May 8, urging you to stand back and assess how far you’ve come. Use the power of this Moon to put finishing touches on your plans.

Saturn, the planet of discipline and karma has been retrograde since December 31, 2008. On May 16, Saturn finally turns direct and opens the door to forward movement and fewer barriers. It will be easier now to create a firm foundation for success. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish!

On May 20, the Sun enters Gemini. It’s birthday time for all the Geminis out there, and a time for all of us to open our minds to new ways of thinking.

Neptune, the planet of illusion, turns retrograde in Aquarius on May 28, giving you the opportunity to review how you invest in your dreams, and how to establish a solid foundation for your life achievements.

Finally Mercury turns direct on May 30, and communications become easier and less confusing, so you can move forward and put all your plans in motion.

Venus in Aries

Friday, April 24, 12:18 am PDT, 3:18 am EDT

The love planet returns to the independent fire sign of Aries where her retrograde cycle prolonged a stay that began back on February 2. This last go-round urges us to freshen up relationships with a new approach or a different partner. There is, though, a natural tension between Venus’ instinct for accommodating others and Aries’ desire for freedom that can make sparks fly. In this impulsively adventurous environment the line between conflict and attraction may not be easy to find.

——————-

New Moon in Taurus

Friday, April 24, 8:23 pm PDT, 11:23 pm EDT

This is an economic recovery New Moon that can regenerate resources and restore financial stability. These may not occur universally, but individuals can be rewarded by the Sun-Moon conjunction in this materially rich sign. Potent Pluto’s harmonious trine to the New Moon reveals hidden talents and uncovers additional sources of income. Finding greater worth on a personal level contributes to a collective rising of the financial waters. Taking time to appreciate our gifts, life’s little pleasures and the bounty of nature taps into the deep well of prosperity that lies beyond the limits of our current fears.

Mercury in Gemini

Thursday, April 30, 3:29 pm PDT, 6:29 pm EDT

Mental Mercury’s leap into its flighty home sign normally steps up the pace of thinking and communication. However, this little planet is slowing down in advance of its retrograde cycle beginning next week. We will get glimpses of new ideas and fresh angles of perception to stimulate our minds. Turning these intellectual gems into action, though, may be delayed until Mercury turns direct at the end of the month.

Mercury Retrograde

Wednesday, May 6, 9:55 pm PDT, Thursday, May 7, 12:55 am EDT

Three weeks of backpedaling by the messenger planet can complicate the flow of data, confuse conversations, increase travel inconveniences and accelerate the breakdown of machinery. Life goes on during Mercury retrograde, and some projects advance swimmingly, yet the general atmosphere is one in which small things that can go awry probably will. Extra attention to details and a fierce commitment to facts, however, will make this a productive time of reorganizing and reconnecting.

Full Moon in Scorpio

Friday, May 8, 9:01 pm PDT, Saturday, May 9, 12:01 am EDT

The Sun in Taurus represents feast and the opposing Scorpio Moon symbolizes famine, so this lunation could kick up worries and dramatize doubts. It’s purpose, though, is not to terrorize us with discomfort but to suggest that for every gain there must be a loss. There’s a price to pay, whether with cash, consciousness, emotion or attitude. Excessive Jupiter, dreamy Neptune and chronic Chiron square the Full Moon, which either fills us with faith or pushes feelings over the top. A trine from inventive Uranus and sextile from stable Saturn, on the other hand, offer well-managed innovation as tools for constructive change.

Mercury in Taurus

Wednesday, May 13, 4:53 pm PDT, 7:53 pm EDT

This is a time of contemplation as Mercury is doubly deliberate now. Its retrograde cycle is a reminder to look inward for answers and its re-entry into earthy Taurus prefers the concrete to the conceptual. A more solid awareness of reality results from grounding ideas in your body and trusting your senses to guide you. The downside of Mercury in this fixed sign is stubbornness, so be aware of when you’re holding your ground as a matter of principle rather than a matter of fact.

Saturn Direct

Saturday, May 16

The planet of order and structure begins a forward shift that can allow inner plans to begin finding their way into the outer world. The vague outlines of concepts may begin to sharpen, especially after Mercury turns direct on May 30. All Saturn asks for is commitment, discipline and a sense of purpose to work its magic of making dreams real.

Sun in Gemini

Wednesday, May 20, 2:51 pm PDT, 5:51 pm EDT

The Sun’s shift into airy Gemini brings breezes of possibilities that exceed the earthbound limits of the preceding sign Taurus. Maintaining focus may be more difficult in this diffuse and easily distracted environment, yet the gift of having so many choices begins to emerge beyond the narrow limits of necessity. There is a tendency toward superficiality as we skim along the surface, yet while flitting among the fields of flowers we open our minds to colors and shapes that enrich the palette of experience.

The New Moon in Taurus is one of the most fertile times of the year. The union of the Sun and Moon in this fixed earth sign connects us to the delights of our senses and to the joys of the physical world. Our instincts find the honey, the sweet stuff of pleasure, self-worth and money that make life more enjoyable. Pluto, the God of Wealth, in a creative trine to the New Moon rewards those willing to cut their attachment to the past and experience more deeply the riches of the present.

——————-

April brings us a gradual opening of the planets over a broader segment of space. This is a blessing. With more breadth we gain resilience, versatility, and perspective. Our steady-moving Sun is out-flanked by Mercury as it speeds toward its crash and burn at its next retrograde, which starts May 6. Although Venus is digging itself into a zodiacal hole with its 43-day retrograde, Mars is the laggard among the fast-movers; the other fast planets will eventually lap Mars in our Cosmic NASCAR race around the ecliptic.

With the planetary gathering in Aries being so anemic, our experience of cardinality—the ability to start things—is also weak. There’ll be much more charge to our activities as the planets enter Taurus, which Mercury does on April 9 and the Sun on April 19. Still the feeling of spring is with us (in the northern hemisphere), with the hope and upswing in vitality that is natural to this season. This is the time to do a physical detox, when our metabolism mirrors the transitional nature of the season.

Although the Sun and Mercury gave us mid-March mutable jollies as it contacted the Saturn-Uranus opposition, it’s not over yet: Mars incites this revolution-meets-resistance contact April 4–15. Watch for some world events to get your populist juices flowing.

The biggest cosmic event in April is Pluto’s retrograde station on April 4. We’ve had since late December to direct its transformative energies on our behalf. Now it assumes a more prominent role as it reaches the critical four-month phase of its yearly cycle. For two months it will feed back to us information about what we need to tweak in our approach to change. We’ll see the culmination of our co-creation with Pluto around June 23. The station itself gives us a concentrated beam of Pluto energy, a chance to fully realize where we’re headed with its expression in our lives this year. We’ve seen issues with a Plutonian tinge emerge over the past few weeks, but the first part of April will reveal all. We can expect the corporate world to continue its rapid transformation, as well as the continued trend toward pragmatism in global society.

Not to be overlooked is Venus’s return to forward motion on April 17. Now Venus is a somewhat dimmer morning star, and she will remain so for about eight months. As Eosphoros (the dawn-bearer), she is less dependent, more whole unto herself than as the Evening Star, Hesperos. Just before she goes direct, Venus dips her toe in Pisces to bring an exalted outcome to us. Will AIG return the funds to the people? Will selflessness triumph over selfishness? Time will tell—it is up to humans to decide, but we are given the choice.

Mars lends drama to our lives on April 4, 15th, and all the days in between to a lesser degree. Our warrior charges bravely (or foolishly—it’s hard to tell in Pisces) into the fray between the new world and the Way It Has Always Been. This will highlight the awakening we are all experiencing with old versus new in our own lives, and revive themes in our lives from mid-March.

Cyclically speaking, we are still in the opening phase of most of the yearly planetary cycles. The Sun makes its sextile to Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune, its semi-sextile to Uranus. Don’t overlook the subtle signals we’re getting from these planets now, because they are the foundation of tomorrow’s successful enterprise. Stay open to opportunity, because these are the planets of transcendence. They can lead us to unimaginable fortune.

We are now past the halfway point in Saturn’s yearly interaction with the Sun. We can see how our efforts at building new structures in our life is going, what remains to be accomplished before it returns to direct motion on May 16. This feeds instructively into our direction with Uranus, whose cycle just began on March 12, since these two planets are interacting throughout 2009 and half of 2010.

New Moon in Pisces

Tuesday, February 24, 5:35 pm PST, 8:35 pm EST

Imagination, idealism, compassion and spirituality are seeded by the New Moon in Pisces. This lunation helps us to touch the limitless universe of faith where everything is connected and everything can be known. The only problem is that there are no words to describe this dreamscape. It’s a place where we feel that we belong even when there isn’t a logical explanation for how this works. Making time to escape the demands of concrete reality with its material obligations creates a path to a spirit world that is the origin of this dimension and a doorway to others that are even more magical and mysterious. A reduction of criticism and increase of kindness to yourself and others releases the bonds of doubt and allows access to higher realms of consciousness.

Venus Retrograde

Friday, March 6

The planet of love and relationships’ backward cycle will last until April 17, turning heads and hearts toward the past. Memories of old lovers and lost opportunities to connect are not meant to lock us into a world of nostalgic regret or idealistic adulation of what could have been. This is, rather, a second chance to make a fresh start within a current partnership or in pursuit of a new one. Venus spends almost all of this retrograde period in independent Aries, challenging our notions of what it takes to create and maintain a harmonious alliance.

Mercury in Pisces

Sunday, March 8, 11:56 am PDT, 2:56 pm EDT

Intellectual Mercury’s dip into the Piscean waters of intuition, inference and imagination is excellent for creative thought and caring conversations. However, facts and figures can get fuzzy in this moist environment where every word is dripping with emotion. We see and speak in a language of symbols where layers of meaning are folded into every phrase. We may lack objectivity during Mercury’s 17-day passage through Pisces, yet gain more understanding by feeling than by thinking.

Full Moon in Virgo

Tuesday, March 10, 7:38 pm PDT, 10:38 pm EDT

The opposition of the Moon in chaste Virgo and the Sun in spiritual Pisces is usually a sedate affair. This one, however, is rocked and socked by conjunctions with Saturn and Uranus. Orderly Saturn is joined with the Virgo Moon, underscoring the necessity to maintain discipline and manage details. Yet Uranus’ conjunction with the Sun in Pisces stirs rebellious instincts and the urge to free ourselves from dull duties and soul-sapping routines. The trick is to take care of business as Saturn demands and to create space for explorations stirred by Uranus. Our challenge is to master the ways to move between responsibility and freedom, to effectively shift from devotion to discovery and back again. If each of us is more skillful in negotiating our way between the opposing principles of Saturn’s restraint and Uranus’ rebellion, we will create a model to be followed by government and other large institutions in need of radical change.

Mars in Pisces

Saturday, March 14, 8:20 pm PDT, 11:20 pm EDT

Macho Mars gets wimpy in compassionate Pisces because it’s hard to be pushy without getting mushy. This sensitizes us to the negative effects of anger and aggression, which can reduce their use as means of intimidation. However, advancing interests in a straight line may also be more difficult during this transit. Mars’ instinct for direct action wanders off in wobbly Pisces, perhaps hindering efficiency. If you’re off track, don’t fight harder and go faster to get back on schedule. Gentle guidance and intuition may seem less certain but are more effective ways to achieve your goals.

Sun in Aries

Friday, March 20, 4:44 am PDT, 7:44 am EDT

The Sun’s entry into trailblazing Aries marks the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of the astrological year. Yet the instinctive impulsiveness of this cardinal fire sign is blunted by its ruling planet Mars’ presence in mutable Pisces. Racing ahead with a dose of spring fever can quickly lead you astray. The excitement of the new season and the potential for change is palpable, yet the pace at which it unfolds could be slower than anticipated. Still, if commitment to altering your future is real, a more roundabout way of getting there may be more successful in the long run.

The New Moon in Pisces is a dip into the spiritual waters in which we all swim. A desire to connect with nature, metaphysics, art, music, poetry and the divine can drive us toward illumination or fanaticism. Reaching a place of ‘truth’ is only helpful when our certainty is matched by tolerance for different interpretations of it. Don’t let dogma or details create the illusion of difference when what we have in common is infinitely greater than what keeps us apart.

Have a great month!

Saturn opposite Uranus: Times — They Are a Changin’

Saturn and Uranus will be exactly opposite each other on February 5, forming what is known as an ‘opposition’ in astrology — two planets positioned 180 degrees apart. This is the second of five such oppositions that started on November 4, 2008, and it will continue until July 26, 2010. These oppositions always come in a cycle, and happen approximately every 45 years. The last time these two planets formed oppositions was 1965 to 1967, and before that from 1918 to 1920.

Saturn is the planet of authority and experience, and represents the tough and conservative disciplinarian, while Uranus is wild and unconventional — the maverick planet of change.

Saturn and Uranus are mortal enemies in mythology, and their combined energies in astrology signal tension and transformation. Issues that have been festering beneath the surface emerge, and the rules of the game shift. Uranus energy brings innovation through instability. Sudden and unexpected events shake our foundations and force us to look at things in a new way.

In order to make wise decisions during these times, we need to look at where Saturn is transiting in our birth charts. And understanding where Uranus is transiting in our charts will help us assess where to make changes in our lives, and how to break out of established routines. Astrology shows us the themes that are in play, and guides us by providing important information. Yet, we are the ones who have to decide what to do with that data. Make sure you’re not on the sidelines now. This is the time to get involved!

The continual movement of the planets through your life affects the events that shape your future. Understanding the energies of your progressed chart will help you focus your energies for maximum return. Empower yourself by knowing when to embrace growth in your life!

YEAR OF THE OX

26 January 2009 – 14 February 2010: Earth Ox

The Ox is the sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work. This powerful sign is a born leader, being quite dependable and possessing an innate ability to achieve great things. As one might guess, such people are dependable, calm, and modest. Like their animal namesake, the Ox is unswervingly patient, tireless in their work, and capable of enduring any amount of hardship without complaint.

FYI: Barack Obama is an Ox – great timing!

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aquarius

Sunday, January 25, 11:55 pm PST, Monday, January 26, 2:55 am EST

This conjunction of the Sun and Moon in innovative Aquarius is a powerful solar eclipse that offers an exciting new vision of the future. Normally, eclipses are associated with loss, and we can expect some outmoded organizations, ideals and friendships to be put to rest. However, opportunistic Jupiter’s conjunction with the New Moon in this progressive sign offers hope through fresh thinking. Recognizing a more comprehensive pattern of connections among people, processes and groups can reveal resources and relationships to rebuild our communities and ourselves.

Mercury Direct

Saturday, January 31 PST, Sunday, February 1 EST

Information slowed during Mercury’s three-week retrograde period will begin to flow more freely in the days ahead. Discussions put on hold are ready to begin again with a sense of renewal that can overcome previous obstacles. Solid planning and sound logic are essential to making your point with chatty Mercury turning direct in well-organized Capricorn.

Venus in Aries

Monday, February 2, 7:41 pm PST, 10:41 pm EST

Sweet Venus turns sassy, adding spice to relationships in this impulsive fire sign. Impatience for love, pleasure and approval spark a hunger for new delights, shaking partnerships that have grown too predictable. Appreciation for originality and unique experiences favors inventive individuals, while those who need a gentle touch can feel hurt by the bluntness of others.

Mars in Aquarius

Wednesday, February 4, 7:56 am PST, 10:56 am EST

Active Mars puts brilliant ideas into motion in this sign of invention. Sticking to old methods can be difficult as we awaken to new ways to solve problems. The urge for freedom can produce sparks of genius, yet operating within the confines of a rigid structure can become more difficult. Finding space for personal expression within a collective process fulfills the Aquarian ideal of respecting both the individual and the group.

Saturn opposite Uranus

Thursday, February 5

The order and stability of Saturn is challenged by the revolutionary impulses of Uranus in a series of five oppositions that began last November 4 and ends in July 2010. Old institutions continue to be rattled by unexpected events and challenge us to come up with radical solutions. We may feel pulled between a desire to return to a familiar world of the past and an urge to turn our lives upside down. Ideally, we recognize the interdependence of past and future, enabling us to build a bridge in the present that connects the wisdom of experience with the innocence of hope.

Full Moon in Leo

Monday, February 9, 6:49 am PST, 9:49 am EST

This Full Moon is a Lunar Eclipse that can clip the wings of exaggerated ideas and overinflated egos. Emotions are easily dramatized in expressive Leo, possibly provoking power struggles or moments when childish needs for attention undermine group cohesion. Desiring recognition for individual achievement is healthy as long as it doesn’t reduce the ability to work as a cooperative member of a team.

Jupiter conjunct Moon’s North Node

Saturday, February 14

Expansive Jupiter’s conjunction with the karmically connected Lunar North Node in Aquarius is excellent for meeting wise and generous individuals. Understanding how our individual stories fit into the book of human experience provides a richer context in which to expand our consciousness.

Mercury in Aquarius

Saturday, February 14, 7:39 am PST, 10:39 am EST

Mercury’s return to intellectual Aquarius tunes minds to higher frequencies of awareness. Rigid thinking is replaced by a more holistic view of reality, one that helps us pull disparate bits of experiences into a more comprehensive picture that is illuminated with insights.

Sun in Pisces

Wednesday, February 18, 4:46 am PST, 7:46 am EST

The Sun’s entry into sensitive, spiritual and compassionate Pisces is a time when concepts descend from the mind and enter the body. Truth is found in feelings, especially those that connect us with nature, the arts and the world of dreams. The edgy intellectualism of Aquarius is softened by Pisces’ desire for true union, one that isn’t bound by ideas or ideology. Forgiving ourselves and others dissolves the barriers between us and engenders moments of magic when intimacy overcomes isolation.

This expansive New Moon in Aquarius is a time of endings and beginnings. As a Solar Eclipse it chips away at old notions of competition to reframe our roles within an updated view of community. Bountiful Jupiter designs innovative models in which self-interest and the greater good mesh harmoniously and we recognize that what binds us together is much greater than what drives us apart.

MERCURY IN RETROGRADE JAN 11 – FEB 1, 2009

Thanks to StarIQ for the Insight…

It’s the second week of the New Year, but many of us are still reeling from the extremes of the holidays. Whether it was the weather, the economy, the Middle East, or emotional eruptions that challenged the volcanic power of Kilauea the intensity of has seemed unrelenting. Fortunately, from an astrological perspective, there’s a break in the onslaught of violence, as this week, the planets arrange themselves in a quieter, and somewhat gentler picture of reality. The good news is that as daily life takes on a slightly less frenetic pace there will be ample opportunity to reflect on what was revealed.

The source of this change of pace (as many of you may have already guessed) is the first Mercury Retrograde phase of 2009. From January 11th through February 1st, Mercury seemingly retraces its path and all things related to its vast realm seem to move in reverse as well. From cell phones to Bluetooth networks to junk mail, communication devices of every kind are vulnerable to frustrating and often unexplainable glitches. Also, negotiations, contracts, court papers, and other written documents suffer from innumerable changes and revisions. And as if all that isn’t enough, travel and traffic detours and delays are probable.

When the mechanics of the world go awry, the best thing to do is to settle in, get comfortable, and take a closer look at the details of what’s already in motion.

The best news of the week and of the retrograde is that as Mercury retraces its path, it maintains a close relationship with Jupiter (at least for most of its retrograde phase) and that combination supplies a steady stream of ideas as well as the ability to express opinions and insights eloquently. (Looking ahead, the inaugural speech should be exceptional.) A Mercury/Jupiter conjunction also signifies good old fashion common sense that can be applied liberally to almost any and every situation.

Jupiter just entered Aquarius on January 5th, where it will stay until January 2010. I always like to say Jupiter symbolizes great good fortune, and while that is true, Jupiter is also a symbol a big, fat, happy planet with a broadband frequency that ranges from philosophy to religion to harmony to humor to the quest for existential truth. Aquarius is the Sign of an egalitarian perspective that is simultaneously concerned with social justice, humanitarianism, and a desire to live in the big picture, as that picture relates to communities, local and global. Jupiter’s transit through Aquarius will be a powerful anchor for keeping our priorities clear about the necessity to help each other through the next waves of personal and planetary shifts.

JAN 5 ’09 – Jupiter Moves Into Aquarius: New Horizons Ahead!

Every year, Jupiter, the Lord of Fortune and Good Luck moves from one sign to the next bringing a new dimension into our lives. Jupiter remains in each sign of the zodiac for approximately twelve months – taking twelve years to transit the entire zodiac. Since last January, Jupiter has been in Capricorn – the earthy sign of the Sea-Goat. On January 5, 2009 Jupiter moves into the air sign of Aquarius.

The expansive nature of Jupiter does not do very well in Aquarius, a sign ruled by Saturn. This transit will generate better chances for general success in life, but can be restless, nervous and erratic, with a lack of inclination for serious work.

Jupiter rules our potential for growth and expansion on many levels: physical, intellectual, spiritual and cultural, along with the accumulation of material assets, power and status. He rules our optimism and aspirations, including our interests in faraway places, travel, foreigners, academic and artistic types, cultural endeavors such as publishing, higher education, structured personal development, healing, government and religion. Jupiter is a risk-taker, so also rules gambling and speculation, adventure – and moving into unknown territory. Luck and well being are also primarily governed by Jupiter. When well aspected, Jupiter can bring superb opportunities for expansion and success. Poorly aspected, he generates over-confidence and foolhardy actions with little care for the consequences.
